A Relaxing Afternoon
Gday guys,
After three long days of full on fishing for only limited results, I finally managed to get away for a quiet little session on my own. I first had plans to pop for a few whiting on the high tide and to say they weren't responsive would be an understatement! I fished for three hours straight for only a few half-hearted slaps, slurps and strikes to show for my efforts. It wasn't untill I pushed upstream a fair way before I started to get a bit more interest.
My first cast in this new area was collected by this hungry little fellow...

I raised a few more small fish that weren't even worthy of a photo after that.
The water became too deep to effectively work poppers as I came up to Walker's Hole so I left my 6lb leader on and tied on an Xrap 8 in Cold Steel. My fourth cast with the new lure was met by a small thud, I paused for a split second and stuck. After a nice little tustle on the light leader this small flatty was in my grasp...

I fished another 20m of water when I felt another tell-tail thud of a flatty. Again I struck and the second I did, 4lb line began to melt off my reel! After a few strong headshakes, more runs and a few nervous tail wraps, I walked the fish down the rockbar to a near-by gravel bed.
This one was a slightly better fish of 62cm and had me a bit nervous using such a light leader with a $20 lure!

After another hour or so for no result, I decided to call it an afternoon well spent. It was nice to be left alone with nothing but my thoughts and a few fish - what a great way to clear a troubled mind!
Cheers Isaac
