Tailless Barramundi
Here's a saltwater barramundi that we recently caught while casting a Rapala X-Rap to a mangrove lined edge.
This fish appeared to have had it's tail bitten off by a larger predator - most likely a big shark. The bite looked clean cut which indicated that a very sharp toothed species did the damage.
The wound had healed well and it's amazing to see it still hunting for food and continuing to survive!
Here's some video footage of the tailless barra!

Thanks boys, great video, it made my Sunday morning, nature is fantastic. Still feeding after all that damage.
Think the net is about retirement age though.

Never let it be said that Barra cannot overcome and adapt......Thnx Boys

That is awesome to se boys. Thanks heaps for sharing. Truly amazing for that barra to overcome that terrible looking injury

An interesting thing to see too was watching it in the water - you could see how it has changed it's movement to improve swimming strength.
It kicks it back around much more from side to side than a normal fish. It's cool to see how it has adapted to the injury to become a better mover.

I have seen a few barra now in magazines and videos where it has adapted well to help with it's injuries, a very tough fish!! Thanks for shareing fellas:D

What a sight....!
Have seen some big bream down here with massive chunks out of them, yet they heal up well.
I reckon I'd have a big sook if I had a chunk out of me!! :54_002:
