Anyone able to tell me what Ningi Crk is like to fish. Will be going in on high tide, so any hidden traps or springs to look out for. At what stage of the tide should I get out of there. Will be a high high and a low low. Doesn't look that big a creek on GE.

I fish it all the time, but only during the week, place cops an absolute flogging on weekends and school holidays, you can walk on the crab pots most weekends and plenty of idiots putting them in the channel, and having 30mtrs of rope on their pots when they are only in 2mtrs of water, so look out for this.
I have found it always fishes best on making tide, however have picked up some excellent flathead on the last couple of hours of the run out tide sitting just on the drop off about 20 mtrs from the red beacon at the mouth using ganged white bait or large green prawns, when anchored up the red beacon will be on your left.
If you are going on high tide, stick to the channel which is marked by beacons up to the boat ramp which will appear on your right hand side heading up the creek. I wouldn't go past the boat ramp on your first trip.
If you haven't fished it before make sure when you enter the mouth between the red & green beacons head in a straight line to the next red beacon as there is a good kilometre of oyster encrusted rocks on your right heading up. There is a fair bit of crap in the creek that will be visible to you at low tide, if you stick to the channel navigation is pretty safe.
When leaving the creek as you get down to the mouth, from about half tide out there is a large mud/sand bank starting to come out on your right and a large sand bank with a 10mtr wide strip of weed bed starting to come out on your left, provided the wind is right or you have an electric on your boat drifting down close to either of these you will pick up flathead, whiting, bream, grunter and trevally.
Ningi fishes good if you get to know the creek and fish during the week, couple of good jew holes well up the creek, and some big jacks.
If you boat is no bigger then 5mtrs you will have no issue navigating at a 300mm low provided you stay in the channel and dont go past the boat ramp.

Not sure if this will work Gazza, couple of Ningi Creek grunter on ice caught last week, plus couple of picks of Mission Pt last week
Now I'm jealous, grunter have eluded me to this point. I'm yet to cross one off the bucket list. Hopefully that will be taken care of in a couple of weeks in Rocky.
Pete and I pulled a couple of stone fish up about 3 metres from where the back of your boat is a couple of weeks ago. Wouldn't like to be walking in the water there with no shoes on.
Mate they get the big barred grunter up there, I have seen em 75cm's and fight like you wouldn't believe, right time mid to late March so hopefully you catch a few, bit a worry about the stonefish, I was camped there for 3 days with my 10 year old Grandson and kept a close eye on him mainly because of the drop off and made him wear his dive boots when in the water, thanks for the heads up on that, am due to go camping there again in April so will remember that for sure, attached picture of a fat girl for you to look at.

Ningi is one of my favorite creeks in SEQ.
I basically only fish upstream of the ramp and usually about 2km upstream around the rocks there.
Very shallow to unpassable at low tide.
If you park yourself near the rocks for the bottom of the tide, have a rod ready with a tiny popper for the change of tide.
The place goes ballistic for 30 minutes with all of the fish hunting around the rocks in a feeding frenzy.
You will lose some lures yes but the rewards are outstanding action.
I was going to fish there this weekend but it is rained out by the forecast it seems.

Depending on how much rain we get in this bout, I could possibly be found up there for the low tide next weekend.
Any more than 75mm of rain and I will opt for scarborough reef area winds permitting.
Have you found any honey hole in the passage for whiting that get flushed out by bad weather?
Mate I live at Narangba and I have had 105mm at my place so far this week, with all the creeks pouring a heap of fresh into the passage over the next fortnight, I will be concentrating my general fishing on drifting the saltwater/freshwater line that will run from South Point across the front of Cooks Rocks, if you are dead keen on catching whiting and if the wind allows, or you have an electric on your boat I would drift the shallow bank in behind Cooks Rocks on the incoming tide with worms or yabbies if you can get them, you will have to wait for 2 hours of run in to ensure you will have enough water, unless you have a punt with little draft. Start at the green marker at the western end of Cooks and drift on a line to the green marker to the east in front of Buckleys Hole, thats a good 2 klms of drift, I normally pick up good whiting, doing this, under these conditions, you will also pick up squire and flathead. Next week tides are morning highs, so you could try the reverse which I have done on occasion, but not with the same success. I will also be trying the yellow marker in front of Ningi Creek on the run in tide only, to much fresh on the run out, hopefully this info is of some help to you, might even catch up with you on the water in the next few weeks.Quote:

Sounds good mate.
I used to fish cooks a fair bit for sweetlip and squire.
Last few times in the area has been for squid and sand crabs.
Can anyone tell me if there are any good yabbie banks around the Ningi Creek area.

Upstream there are yabbies almost to where the road comes beside the creek.

Well, Pete and I ventured into the bowels of Ningi creek for a bo peep today. Water was very dirty, maybe 4 - 6 inches water clarity. We ventured about 1.5k up past the boat ramp on the top of the tide then fished our way out. Nice looking bit of water and plenty of structure. In 2 hours of throwing placcies, Pete had 1 grunter about 28cm and I had 1 flatty about 40cm. Moved down to the mouth looking for a bit cleaner water to no avail. Threw placcies for another hour with no joy. Time to pump some yabbies and try a bait fish. Moved to the yellow beacon and Pete spent the next hour cleaning up on Grunter, a good sized bream and a baby stingray. Me, I got zip. Then moved out into the bay and fished the channel markers for a heap of undersized bream. A good day was had, Pete outfished me about 20 to 1. New Minn Kota advanced i-pilot worked a treat on spot lock and the Jog mode left,right,back and forward was sensational, but the auto pilot function seemed to have a mind of it's own, don't know yet if it is pilot error or a glitch. So great day on the water, thanks again Pete for the company.

We ironed out the details for next months big trip. And I only caught those fish because Gaz was too polite to throw into my honey hole.
Forgot to mention, "I'M STILL A GRUNTER VIRGIN" Apparently you need to be an expert fisherman to catch them.:(
I don't know what you are doing wrong with the grunter Gaz, I get pissed off by the numbers of the pests this year.
Up around those rocks upstream from the ramp about 2km it seems to be every second fish is s grunter.
hordes of the buggers between Donnybrook ramp and Mission Point.. all 26-28cm
