Bad luck mate, drop us a PM if you want to T-up another session in Bell's. Accessing the upper reaches is a long paddle from the ramp, shorter from the nearby residents of the Pelican Waters estate, even shorter if you know another way......

I haven't caught a real good Jack in Bell's for a while now, however every summer, we'll get the odd 40cm fish.

    Cheers Dave

All 3Am starts deserve a jack in my opinion. You are very keen, and we all know the feeling. Took me ages, and a few bustoffs, to land my first, but then they come easier.

Id try Prawnstars or Atomic Prongs.

    cheers

Dont want to rain on the parade but looks a bit like a toady bite to me. Got that horse tooth look about. In my experience Jacks don't miss much! Usually will have the rod loaded up instantly. Agree with UBK 4 inch swimmerz are the shit.
Fishing. Its only an addiction if your trying to quit!

Took another Flattie on the 'red shad' today, and agree that they do the job of catching fish! Might even start experimenting with stinger hooks now.

My two cents: If you're fanging to land your first Jack though, my money would go on a livey. Cast-net up some prawns and mullet (or whatever's bait down your way), find your snag/structure and set them out on a paternoster. Hasn't got the artistry of a well placed and worked lure... but it puts fish on the measure-mat!

can I ask why you went weedless ? I'd be going something heavier an get it down into the good stuff especially at this time of year- z man swimmer on a 1/4 5/0 hook should have a jack crunch it if hes there
