Default Sunday morning at Green Island...

Kyle & I hit Green Island at dawn on Sunday. Conditions were far from favourable with a blustery easterly wind but we hadn't been out for a few weeks and we have become addicted to fishing for snapper in the shallows with bream gear. The difficultly is finding the bigger fish...

After an hour or so of fruitless casting we decided to try a brand new spot on a side of the island that we hadn't seriously fished before. Kyle looked at the water which had been made murky by the persistent wind and current and he decided to replace his favourite goto lure with a bright green cultiva mirashad.

Within a few casts he landed a nice bream of around 27cm...then the serious fun started. A group of dolphins began an aggressive feeding pattern around 100m east of us. We were down current from them so we figured the bait and predators would come to us on the rising tide. Suddenly we had snapper mayhem! Kyle managed three to 35 cm in as many casts plus another two bream. I got a 33 before my lure was monstered by a bigger fish that went for 4 or 5 screaming runs before it threw the lure. A possible PB missed...

Meanwhile Kyle got a 39, another bream and then three more snapper to 35cm in as many casts. All on the bright green mirashad. It was clearly Kyle's day when he landed a big flounder on the same lure.

Eventually the bite went quiet and soon after we headed in. The final tally was a grinner, 5 snaps, a pike and a couple of baby reef fish to me and 12 snapper to 39cm, 4 bream, a flounder, a pike and a grinner to Kyle...

A fun morning with all fish caught within ten minutes of the boat ramp. Sorry - no pics on this trip...

    Cheers

    Pete & Kyle

Yeah Matt, a lot of good reports from Green, Peel and the artis in the last few weeks with snapper to 85cm...
