Hi Mick, a mate of mine actually purchased a Catalina in the 90s, Im pretty sure it was called the Flying Scotsman. He ran joy flights out of Coolangatta for about 6 mths, and then shut down the operation. I remember him showing me the plane in history books about the important contribution it made to the war. It had the abilty to take off from short runways and carry very heavy loads, so that made it a natural fit for the Sth pacific islands. Im pretty sure he said that aeronautical engineers said it 'shouldnt be able to fly with such a craft design, yet does somehow!'.
Dont know where it ended up, but back then there were only 2-3 still flying in Oz.
cheers
Andrew
