    Default Early morning flattie session

    G'Day AA's

Well after a night of long discussion on Friday night with my three sons as to which one of the boys would come with me in my kayak for an early morning fishing trip to Caloundra it was finally decided the middle boy, Jake, would make the trip. After all, the eldest has exams to study for and the youngest needs more space than the kayak offers. So the alarm went off at 1.50am (I wish I lived closer to the water) and out of bed I jumped, had a quick bite to eat with Jake and off we headed. After the hour and a half drive we finally arrived at Caloundra and launched the kayak by 4am. The day got off to a fairly bad start when I was trying to move the kayak through some very shallow water with my paddle and "SNAP" went one end. So then I had to paddle with only one end of my paddle.

Just on daylight I cast my 3" Minnow Grub into a small drain almost at the bottom of the tide. One jig and I got smashed by an 80cm flattie. After a short fight I eventually got it into a small net. Snapped a couple of photos and let her go. Throughout the couple of hours we caught 11 flathead sized from 35cms to 80cms. Jake come in second with a 50cm flattie. As the tide started rolling in the fish went off the bite so we went and fought the strong incoming tide with one fin on the paddle and made our way back to the ute.

Well done Mick and Jake, big effort in do'in the miles. We probably take it for granted too much.

That 80cm model is a true Crocodile. It was a shame I had to drop the young fella down to the Goldy for Schoolies, otherwise I would have caught up for sure!

Give us a call the night before you head east next time so I can arrange to meet you on the water!

    Cheers Dave

Well done Mick, quality time with the kids is what it's all about . The fish are just a bonus. Give yourself a pat on the back and keep up the good work.
