Default Good from afar, but far from good!

I tore the guts out of my castnet the other day, so lashed out and bought a few Pillies with the idea of floating ganged hooks on the outgoing tide.

The balloon didn't go off- but the lighter Paternoster rig I had on the side secured a thorough take.

After alternating between reeling and spool-thumbing for 3 or 4 minutes a familiar profile broke the surface... one last hopeful stretch that it was a Threadie (or even a Shark).. but no..

Good fun to play; a reasonable size; and it was a clean landing... it's just a shame it was a Cattie.

A few rushed pics and back he went. He was shocked and fatigued, but came right after a minute or two- just can't kill the bleeding things!

You know they have a very painful spike, don't you...... Most guys don't handle them. I dehook them over the side of the boat.

Nothing wrong with the humble old catty, they give an honest account for them selves and grunt harro when you get them out of the water! Under rated sports fish

I'm hearing you Ben- I've got respect for them, particularly when handling.
They just happen to be down the list when it comes to 'target species', having pulled more than one or two of them out of the Mount Crosby Wier!

Totally contradicting myself when I say that I'd probably be stoked to catch one overseas though- Red Tail, Piraiba, Well's, Mekong.. you know..anything that takes two blokes to lift!
