Would have made a great fish tank specimen, but would probably risk a fine for undersize fish.

Cheers Chris-O, love the Jacks at any size!

A while back I watched a pair of juvs about that big patrolling a shallow rocky ledge. One would flush the tiny baitfish out and the other would hit them as they tried to escape into the deeper water. If they were deliberately working in tandem, they had it down pat!

Facinating to watch and got me to thinking about how they might behave as they get bigger.

    Cheers again,
    Alex.

I am surprised it is a blackish colour.....maybe because of its terrain or something.
I have seen quite a lot of small jacks down to about 4cm and they have been red coloured with the electric blue flashings on the face and gill plates. The orange flashings in the fins is correct.

Was this a night time vid maybe and not reflecting true colours?

I am keen to get one for a fish tank. Never had fish before, but think a Jack would be awesome. Local pet shop, bayside of Brisbane, had smaller ones for $200 and ones of about that size for $230. Expensive little critters. I youtubed clips of people feeding Jacks a few weeks back, interesting way to spend a hour. They are just awesome. If you get the chance, have a quick look.

Is there a minimum size on jacks?
