    Default Goat Island 18/08/2013

We have been struggling to find any decent snapper in the last three weeks at Green, Peel or Goat Islands. During the week I picked up some cheap 60mm Kato Karnage lures from BCF at 5 for $25. Rigged them with single hooks and gave them a swim yesterday morning on a solo run to Goat on the high tide.

The first one was monstered on the reef edge by what I suspect was a big cod that took my new lure into the reef...goooonnne!

Soon after I bagged a 40cm snapper on a slow rolling retrieve. He fought hard despite only having half a tail! One more small snapper (35cm) and some vermin saw me home by 10.00am.

Still looking for the bigger snaps...

    Cheers

    Pete

Yeah Dave, they swam well but were a bit too buoyant for my liking. Snapper are suckers for suspended lures...

Should not take much playing around Pete - heavy duty (barra) ring on the belly hanger probably do the trick (and have it suspending at a nice angle too).
Lovely fish on the bream gear.

We got a couple inside Sydney on some shallow reef a few weeks back. Excellent fun on the light gear especially when they are unexpected (think you've got a rat king on the first run - then you start thinking nah must be a jew - then a legal snap comes on board and you just shake your head...)

I hope they are here to stay.

BCF pay around $2.50 for them. Be nice if they worked like Rapallas lol.

Yeah but you still have to 'mod' rapalas as well - and they cost a heap more!

Love to find a consistent lure that you could use without dramas straight out of the packet!
