Default Hervey Bay - First Couple Days

Sydney mate and I do a fishing holiday every year somewhere in S/E Qld. Last year we decided on River Heads - about the same time that the weather Gods decided to dump on Bundaberg. Needless to say, bugger all fishing was done, but the area certainly appealed, so Monday arvo saw us rock back in to River Heads for a 7 day stay.

Regulars to the site will know that I have been seeking advice on the area via the Forum. A few locals have been great with their help, particularly Chewy and Paulo. Chewy visited us yesterday arvo to drop off some pots and to point out some of the general areas we might explore.

Weather has been ordinary but yesterday morning we decided to take on the challenge of fishing German Ck. We headed off in a raging sou-easter, got drenched by spray, but made it into a creek for a couple hours. First 10 minutes saw a nice grunter landed, but bugger all after that. We found later we were actually fishing Mosquito, so German beckons for tomorrow.

Yesterday arvo Apollo arrived with the Key West in tow for a trip today to one of his Bay spots. Up at sparrows today to be at the ramp by 0400 - to be at the spot before sun-up. We had a great day. Spotties, schoolies, trevors and the odd shark. Big bust-ups. Spooled reels. Chasing fish to prevent spooled reels. The day had it all. We didn't get huge numbers but gee we caught some nice fish. Thanks heaps to Steve for the day.

Didn't get a lot of photos, but we did get a shot of the "not too bad" golden that Steve caught.

More to come tomorrow or the next day.

Good day Pete. We certainly got plagued by 40cm trevs that pull hard for their size and are fun on lighter string. Hope you enjoy your feed. Steve
