No guilt trip there mate, un-like other places no one here's going to flame you for keeping a feed or two, or CnR, your choice.

Re the wire, consensus seems to be fish light to get the bite, deal with the fight/landing issues later, I'm in that camp

Yair . . . Thanks folks for the responses and welcome . . . I guess I'll go with 30 pound mono leader on the braid and see what happens.

    Cheers.

Kmart do a good 30lb mono at a reasonable price p/mtr.... But as long as you're fishing that poundage have you considered Flurocarbon?

Black Magic ticks my boxes. Good quality/price for anything over 20lb. I buy mine at Ray's.
Won't even fish the storm drains in season without a 40lb in the kit.... Learnt the hard lessons, I have!

...and welcome to the site mate.

Alex, if the wind is down tomorrow, you can use my 80lb Black Magic flurocarbon high tensile fence wire. Sits like a coil spring unless I've got half a kg of lead on. I've been using their normal supple line of leader and like it. Still doesn't stop the big critters cutting the leader in the coral.

    Hello Scrub Puller

Wire is ok if you're in salt/brackish water where u might come across bullsharks. I've used it any times. Not stiff stuff though.

I don't use mono/fluorocarbon under 50 lb. Mostly 60 or more if big fish are around and a protracted fight may be in the offing.

Depends on how much fiddling around you are prepared to do.
