I had an unexpected chance to have a quick flick at Bribie on Sunday afternoon to chase some flatties, with high tide around lunch time, the run out in the afternoon should be OK.
Dropped into the tackle shop at Carseldine on the way up to get a few jig heads and the helpful chap there suggested I try some 3inch atomic prongs in Pumpkin.
Have not been up to Bribie for a while and arrived to see the pub has opened. So off I go trudging across the mud flats to some supporting music from the band playing out the front of the pub.
The atomic prongs paid off. 2 small flatties of about 30cm, fairly quickly which I retuned , a pike and a barracuda
I thought I would be smart and picked the cudda up by the end of the jig head in its mouth to flick it off, wroooong! Their teeth are like razors. He was released easily enough but with blood gushing out of my finger.
Next few casts and I hooked something solid that started taking line easily. Thought I was on to a good flathead but turned out to be a bream of just over 41cm. This has to be the biggest bream I have ever caught and on light line it was a great fight.
Unfortunately no more flatties for the rest of the day.
so next stop is North Stradbroke next month for an overnight fish to try for a few Jewies.
