Gday guys, a reasonable forecast saw me heading over to Fraser Island nice and early this morning with the plan to fish the tide up onto the flats and see what I could find. Got over there in glassed out conditions and it would have been only the second cast and it was on. Good little tussle and a nice Grunter came over the side. Kept on drifting along, plenty of bait and more turtles than you could poke a stick at. Hooked up another grunter, but this one was a tad smaller so didn't bother with a pic. Saw a few more cruising around but apart from following, no takers. Next up was a cast in next to a mangrove and it got hammered. The line ended up all twisted through the roots, so it took a bit of untangling and then I saw it was a good sized flathead. Got it away from the snags and boated a new PB. Measured along the net handle and check when I got home, it went 80cm. I was pretty happy with that effort and she swam away strong. This was pretty much it for the day, chased a few whiting on poppers for no hook ups, and spooked a few more flathead to no avail. All in all not a bad morning on the water, good to get the boat wet again, going to be making sure it happens a bit more often this year. Hope everyone has a great Australia Day!
