Default Good Friday...and some quality time.

With the rigors of life going on, its been a while since Jode and i have made it into the boat, so with a couple days off i got sorted and once Jode got home from nightshift yesterday morning, we made some lunch, packed the dog and headed to Beaver rock ramp. It proved to be a good idea, as it wasn't super busy, and soon we were on our way. I really wasn't expecting too much, as it was a pretty hot still day, and that proved to be the case on the way down the straights, a couple snags the only bend in the rods. We had snacks, and a few drinks, cruising taking in the scenery, then throwing the dog over and having a swim, and some lunch under a tree. With the tide dropping i tried one of Did's secret spots, and sure enough, at the bottom of the first drift, the rod buckled over and i soon had a nice grunter on ice.

To try something a bit different, i tried all the rods i had rigged, to see if i could get a fish on a different style of plastic, and sure enough, i had more grunter than i needed. The grunter are chock full of prawns, and were nibbling the plastics off the bottom. I think the bouyancy of the Zman's lets the tail just waft above the bottom. While fishing the Shrimpz, i just left it sit on the bottom, and rattled the rod around, you could see them nibbling at it, and then they just belted it. Its a change for me catching more than i need during the day, as they used to be a bait only option in the middle of the night. For me, on light gear, they are a fantastic estuary species. I also managed a nice cod to top the day off. We headed home with Jode nodding off and meg helping me get a few prawns at a couple drains to top the day off....Been way too long.

Good stuff Mr Chew. Grunter are a lot of fun on light gear. Get plenty as by-catch here chasing flattys.
