So with a few days off, and fighitng the flu, i headed out this morning to try knock off one last barra before it freezes. Seven am saw me cruising down the river all rugged up, with the tide pumping out it looked good..until i rounded the corner and found the hole full of boats, bait fishing for grunter i guess.
I snookered my way in and around, without much luck, couple small flatties and not much else. The decision was made, after listening to the voices in my head to head back up the river and see if i could make a session out of it with an early season trev or queeny. Pulling up, and dropping the leccy, a few casts resulted in a couple half hearted hits. On burning the lure in, a nice queeny followed it in, so i changed to a bigger jighead, to get a bit more action out of the lure and popped on a Slimswimz.
Whether it was the change of lure, or just time of tide i dunno, but it was a pretty constant procession of trevs after that, with a few of pretty decent size for the river. Id tossed in again, close to the bank, when the fireline twitched, and i struck. This fish was different, lugging away, and i had my suspicions, and soon after they were confirmed when a nice little barra popped up. It gave a good account of itself, considering the water was only 22 degrees, and there was a couple moments when the 4lb braid touched some submerged obstruction. Happy days. A couple more trevs and i called it a day to go home and do some gardening...
