Well, the annual Barra Bounty kicks off tomorrow with about 70 x 2 person teams.

Right on cue it pelted down in the upper Fitzroy and the barrage gates opened on Monday when the floodwaters reached Rocky.

The river is absolutely filthy brown and running.

2 days ago, the competition plans by 70 teams were torn up and there's been a scramble to come up with new tactics (probably down river).

Went down to help set up headquarters near the southside ramp park this morning. Boats and trailers everywhere on revised pre-fish exercises. Also picked up a donated $250 worth of prizes from BCF for raffles tonight.

There's a webpage with results that I'll post a link to (when I find it).

There are actually 87 teams with the event area expanded to include Coorooman Ck, Corio Bay and into the Narrows as far as Ramsay Xing.

Was talking to some competitors last night at the briefing who had sounded barra in the town reach still and were happy despite the water colour. Most still intent on down river and Port Alma.

Local tagging group Captag had a super draw raffle with 11 draws and $1000 in prizes at the Gracemere Hotel (hosts for event).

Profit from the raffle as well as from the event itself going towards stocking the freshwater above the barrage.

Great sunny weather with higher temps expected.

    Above is the scoreboard.

Actually 4 barra over the metre with 1330mm the biggest.

    Some good king as well.

Sure is for a wild fish.

There are plenty of big buggers lurking around these days.

Anyway, second day has already started with max of 34 today and 36 tomorrow (1/2 day).

    Clear sky. Light nw/n winds

Was talking to Bill S the other day. Thoughts of a second bounty during year considering how popular the current one is with waiting list.

Bit of thought to be given there about how to organise it so those who miss out on Oct comp on waiting list can get a go at other one.

Coming up to the short session on day 3 (until noon).

400 barra so far with 10 over the metre. 1330 still the biggest. Average length per barra = 680mm

About 170 king threadfin up to 1300 as well.

From the background in a lot of the photos with cleaner water and hills, a lot of boats went downstream.

Col Brett (local guy from Barra Jacks tackle shop) has his nose in front on individual race with 18 barra so far.

4502 with 2 hrs to go.

    11 metre barra now.

Jeff Dine has overtaken Col Brett for individual lead with the 1175mm one he got making the difference.
