I hit the Hawkesbury with a mate on Saturday - with a mind to target some jewfish on lures.
I was only after the big girls - so got stuck in with the big guns right off.

I got a knock early on which left a couple of big peg marks in the head and tore the eye off one side.
To be honest I think that probably made me persevere with the big willy longer than I should have - as over the next couple of hours I was getting no attention at all.
Meanwhile my mate was getting some hits (lacking commitment), and a bit of bycatch coming over the side.
We put a couple of flathead on ice on 5" zmans and decided to see if we could put together a bit of a bag so went down to 3" deizel minnows for a couple of hours which saw us with 12 flathead (39-54cm) and a couple of bream (32 and 36 I think) on ice. We would have released the same again in just legal flatties I think. (ie. 36-39cm) Very productive little session.
Funny side bar - old mate has this passionate hatred of fishing shirts with pictures of fish on them.
Anyway, his daughter chucked a wobbly in BCF one day and made him buy a bream shirt.
He caught his first bream on lure, so made him pose.

Eventually we went back to the 5 and 6" stuff and worked hard for the next few hours for little reward.
I did end up catching a je. It looked a lot like a jew but only just qualified as a je. Maybe 40cm. On a Pro Lure paddle tail.
After throwing him back in I realised I should have 1. got a pic. and 2. made it a novelty pic with the big willy tastefully positioned.
At least we saw a big eagle.

Then I went home and cooked a couple of flathead the laziest way I know how. In a pan that is way too small.

The end.
