Default Burrum's on fire he said

So, I haven't fished much lately and had a few days off over Christmas, so I got the must do stuff out the way, and contacted chewy and told him to prepare. He told me the best bet was the burrum river, it's on fire, the Barra and jacks are biting their tits off he said.

So, the highway I hit, rained all the way up, I had to do 2 very dangerous river crossings on the way up on Tuesday night. The servo attendant on the Maryborough bypass tells me there'd been big storms the last three nights, and we were lucky Maryborough was still there, which I thought best I didn't question. Found an excellent new ramp at burrum heads thanks to MrChew's directions and launched the poly. The idea was to have a bit of a bait fish at the ramp where Chewy said they'd been getting Barra. On dropping the anchor over the pointy end, abuse spewed forth over my shoulder, it appears old mate was fishing off a moored yacht 25 meters away and thought I a was a bit close. Always the diplomat I ran away all the way to the other side of the river, hitting 2 sandbanks on the way, current was roaring along so gave that a miss and went back to the ramp and got the swag and set it up in the boat. Woke at day light, and chewy arrived on que. A discussion was had regarding all the fresh in the coffee coloured water but we headed over the other side of the river where Chewy made the call "we're no chance" " if I knew it was like this I'd have told you not to come". We decided to go get coffee and head to the sandy straights to some of my secret spots, namely "the trout ledge".

We split up at this stage and I went to maaroom and headed north while Chewy went home and after lunch went to beaver rocks and went south, because we like making things interesting. Now when we met up we drank beer and ate prawns, then Chewy cast netted a few prawns for me to use as live baits, saw a huge storm coming and ran for home, leaving me to get pounded by the storm over at an other of my secret "big fish" spots on the inside of Fraser Island. The storm passed after 20 minutes or so. It was beautiful, I don't know why but the colours after the storm were amazing, the trees were almost iridescent with green, cliffs were shades of yellow with waterfalls cascading down into the straights. Grunter were readily hitting the prawns, and hitting the deck. I landed an 80cm or so Jew and a few incidentals. Something huge was hitting things on the surface, so I hooked up a small grunter and sent him to investigate. 10 minutes or so and the reel was screaming, I couldn't stop it, but it got the juices going. That all happened again 20 minutes latter. Few more incidentals and I hit the swag. Had a quick fish in the morning, but found the electrics battery was outa juice, so headed for home.

So a lot of driving, a fair bit of socialising, and a bit of fishing, just the way I like it.
