    Crystal Bowl forecast for 2019

    Rain means run-off and/or flooding.

Flooding or run-off in say Dec/Jan means access to floodplain lagoons/creeks for newly hatched fingerlings giving sanctuary from predation.

Rain at the wrong time (or no rain) does little for recruitment.

We had little rain last year at spawning time so no run-off to give early access to floodplains.

We did get a major flood last year (Cyclone Debbie) but it happened in April therefore too late to help recruitment. So most of those fingerlings seeking sanctuary stayed in river.

The last 3 years have seen poor seasons and poor recruitment. That has down-the-track consequences being experienced now.

Never mind. A carbon tax will fix it.
