    Day 1.

Well, 183 barra (1 of a metre or more) and 30 king threadfin with 9 of 1 metre or more.

Day 2 is when the hard yards start. A lot of contestants will be reverting to plan B. Some wont have a plan B but will be willing to try anything and might just succeed. End up successful for the wrong reasons.

323 barra so far. 420 prediction might be on the money. 3 of 1m+.

    17 threadies of 1m+.

Col Bretts and Michael Slade of Lethal Lures/Dobyns Rods in front at moment but look for a thundering finish from BarraJacks/Edge Rods team of Craig Griffiths and Steve Pill.

    Ends tomorrow.

    So.... 6 barra of 1m +.

    98 threadies with 20 of 1m+.

506 barra when prediction was 420. Prediction from Bill Sawynok's Crystal bowl had a +- 10% component so still higher than prediction +- factor.

Interesting stat is the average fish size was 65cm. That av figure has been steadily increasing.

Closed barra season coming up in 2 weeks or so. I guess that now anglers chasing threadies, fingermark etc will be cursed by unwanted and unintentional bycatch of barramundi.

    Awful isn't it?

Had a look at the latest example of Bill Sawynok's BioSonics $100K research sounder tests.

This time on 2 bays at Awoonga Dam.

    Absolutely unbelieveable.

Could see a map similar to google earth of those bays except its an underwater map of every stick, tree, log, contour in the water. Every baitball and every fish that the unit recognized as a barramundi.

The unit has had its algorithms modified with facial recognition technology data to recognize different species of fish. Don't think that it can recognize Bill the barramundi from Byron the barramundi or fish that its seen before from fish it currently sees (unless Byron has grown a moustache).

Where those barra are in relation to the timber and the baitballs. Could easily see which sizes were hanging around the baitballs.

The depths they are sitting at along with the size of each barra which has an identifier number.

Gladstone Area Water Board want a survey on what barramundi are actually in the dam at any point in time like after a spillway breach with no guessing?

It'll tell how many, where they are and the different size gradings if asked to do so.

Take it down into the Boyne below the dam to see what's happening there.

Think of the financial and environmental ramifications for the pro fishing industry if employed there.

    Watch the space.

Watched Jaws last night for the words " Gunna need a bigger boat".

These words " Gunna need a bigger net".

125cm at new town boatramp pontoon yesterday.

    From the Northern Territory newspaper:

A group of mates got busted with too many crabs in their esky at Buffalo Ck.

This week one of them fronted up in court to plead guilty where he was lumped with hefty fines.

The animal lovers at the Fisheries Department tried to get the prosecutor Hope Holborow to sneak a victim impact statement into evidence.

Judge John Neill was having none of it.

"An impact statement" he said. "What, from the mudcrabs ?"

    True story.

    1.5m king threadfin.jpg

Fella called Greg Rogers cracked it this 1.5 metre king threadfin at Port Alma this morning.

I spoke to Greg about the mat being crinkled at the 0 to 10cm mark. He said that because his brag mat only went to 1200mm and he wanted to be absolutely sure of length, he put texta marks for length head to tail on the boat gunwale and measured that distance at 1500mm when he got home.

Do me for a genuine 1.5m king threadie.

Bit of land based stuff in town.

At the video start as the camera is panning right when boats go past, note the barra jumping just on the other side of the channel where boat wash is. Being played by one of the competition boats in the rocky bay. Easy to miss if you aren't aware.
