Filling in the days

Well with Pete and i both time poor lately, a welcome text come through Sunday night, "want to got for a look for a winter species or two tomorrow?" I presumed he meant fish, so like the gentlemen we are we decided on gentlemen's hours with me turning up at Pete's place at 11 am sharp, to be greeted by Mel "he cant go till he's finished hanging out the washing"....Right..i see how it is, so has a play with Pete's friendly dog while he finished his domestic chores.

So midday saw us pushing the boat in, the water looked fine, rods rigged, and we were off. Pete caught two fish from two casts.i hooked two snags in two casts, busted both off, so i was left re-rigging muttering under my breath while Pete kept making cute noises as fish kept hitting his lure,thankfully missing any further hookups until i was casting again. I managed to retrieve one cast to the boat, so with renewed optimism and vigor i cast again, energetically driving the hook into a submerged tree again. Pete by this stage just shook his head. I'm convinced he sometimes thinks he fishing with Mr Bean.

Anyway, the next couple of hours was a constant stream of Queenies, good sized Tarpon and some smaller Trevally, which were good fun on the light gear. I put on a larger Shrimpz, hoping for a barra, but all i managed were more Tarpon and Queenfish.

Pete went back to casting a SLim Swimz, which we had both caught barra on last year, and sure enough, soon had one in the net.
Was a great arv, talking crap, talking about the good old days, had a beer and caught a few fish on a great winters day.
Anyone that doesn't get a buzz from catching 20 odd fish on light gear on a winters day is fishing for the wrong reasons in my opinion.
Can't wait to do it again.
