Contact with the bottom is important chasing flathead, I have more success with one or two lazy hops on retrieve, curly tails, grubs, prawn imitation, and paddle tails I prefer the hop retrieve. Some guys in skinny water are having success with poppers, but I haven’t scored with that approach.

Poppers in skinny water especially where heavy weed beds, vibes work well in 1.5 to 3m especially adjacent to weed beds. If there are ghost prawns around the 3 and 4 inch Atomic in Ghost Prawn can be very deadly followed by the Berkley Swimming Mullet in Green Prawn. If I'm by myself I'll trail a SP behind the boat and pick up the odd one, they seem to tend to hit when I've hit the spot lock as I've got a fish on or just want to plaster an area. Trolling a lure between locations will pick up lots more.
If all else fails, a bottle if good bourbon and a plea to the Funchy the Flattie Whisperer will get you a lesson on the water or your welcome to come with me.
