    Default Holidays end.

Hi all, with pete and I unable to start the working year with a 5 day week,
we had put in an extra annual leave06C0FB41-8712-43AB-A68F-AA9296949FD5.jpgB41F3C17-2963-4ABE-8497-EAB7D90730C7.jpgBE92BBD5-E19E-444A-824C-A7754227AA63.jpg9C38CADF-DA75-4F17-BE87-085F1A477992.jpeg4DD0419F-A1DC-4697-A959-86275587EFC3.jpg day. Initially we were gonna head out the dam, but after my dismal efforts yesterday and not having had a feed of fish for ages we decided to head down the straights and check some of the “winter” haunts after I’d seen those fish on the flats the other day. 4 am saw pete arrive and by 5:30 we were at our never fail thready spot.
It was a bit quiet for the first ten minutes with the tide still just drifting in. I was throwing a zman 3” Holographic Shrimpz on a light Snakelockz ans pete
was fishing the the same I think early. We really alternated between those, 2.5” Grubz and 4” streakz curl tailz. Sandflies were out in force. Few casts in I got an out of season catch, then we got a
just legal grunter and a procession of trevally. Pete switched to the 2.5 grubz and towelled me up numbers wise for a while. I used a 4” curl tail and got another nice grunter. We were just drifting out with the start of the ebb tide when pete had
switched back to the 3” shrimpz and was slow winding back to the boat when his rod buckled over. I called it for a bigger cod or xos flatty being slow and heavy, but eventually a nice size blubber lip swam up. A great catch. From there it was a procession of fish, here and there, with lots of grunter, and a couple of bigger bust offs. Also managed another nice out of season fish on 10lb braid and 15 lb leader and a little 2.5” grubz. It was quite a battle. We fished a few places on the way back for not much, and the wind made for a bumpy trip home in places.
All in all a good end to the holidays.
    tight lines.
    chewy.
