    Default Swan River Overnighter-Shark

Went for a river fish a fair way up the Swan River with a couple of mates last night. Mainly hoping for Bream and maybe a Mulloway-Jew. We caught heaps of small Bream for the first half of the night. All small but at least we were getting something. All were released.
Pete went home early and I stayed on with another mate and at 3.45am I got a screamer of a run. I nearly didn't believe what I was hearing. I let it take a fair bit of line before striking and it was on. After a decent struggle which I actually called it for a shark but not really thinking it was possible we sighted it. Unbelievable but true, a nice shark came alongside. My mate slipped the net under and it was ours.
WhooHooooooooo my first Shark from so far up river. I was over the moon.
ps-not staying on line too long cause I need some sleep but will be back on this afternoon.
    Cheers Danny

I'm pretty sure its a Bull Shark, but some people call them Swan River Whalers. A lot of people talk about catching them up the river, but it is a very rare thing.

This was caught on 30lb mono line and 100lb mono trace. I wasn't using wire because I wasn't really expecting a shark.

Nice work there danny, I'll be a little bit more wearing next time I'm dangling my toes in the river.

    Cheers Nath

It was all down to Adrians Skill at the net. The Bully wasn't to keen to be landed. Hopefully I'll be able to repay the favour soon Adrian.
As to "Storm Boy" If you fish in the hard times-Wet windy, cold etc You get rewarded every now and then.

    Nice Bully Danny.

I have caught bully's 50-60km up stream from river mouths. The last one caught was when fishing for wild bass on the upper reaches of the brissy river up from Colledges crossing. I was fishing in my kayak and could see the bullys cruzing the shallows searching for gar and mullet that where everywhere up there.

Did you keep it or throw back? I havnt eaten them before but I am sure plenty do.We used to use live catfish that had their spikes removed to catch them. Best on sunrise/sunset before water traffic/skiers becomes to busy.

    Cheers

    Aaron
