Default Quick trip to the Gulf

Have been missing my Barra fishing down here on the Gold Coast and so when the opportunity came for a quick fish up the Gulf, I jumped at the chance. Flying to Cairns and driving to Kurumba to put the boat in, we ran up the coast. While on the whole the Barra fishing was a little slow we still managed some beauties. The biggest measured 130cm.

As usual, trolling produced the biggest fish but we managed quite a few small ones casting as well. And a mixed bag of Blue and Threadfin Salmon (Threadies were thick) as well as Fingermark. Crabbing was good with all the creeks producing quality crabs (yum).

Nice going there Luke. That sure is a horse of a barra you are holding there, and l'm sure that Kelly did appreciate the mud crabs.

Thanks guys. They sure are impressive when they get that size. Nothing like a big barra bite.

I was using 3.5 metre, 5 metre and 8 metre Halco Scorpian's and the 20foot Barra Baits worked well as well. We travelled 40+ miles up the coast and fished the Branigan, Smithburn, Duck and Spring Creeks. I had a great time and really miss the Barra fishing in the rivers so I'm keen to get back up there soon.

    Luke,

Did you guys have a mother ship or camp up those area's or travel daily? Would love to get up that region for a fish. Better do it oneday while i live up north and its not soo far. Did you find the better fish trolling deep holes and rockbars?

    Cheers

    Luke...

What a rush - That is a DONKEY!! How old is that Barra likely to be? Do they live for very long or are some just very well fed?

    Great work....
