    Default NT Trip May 2008

    Hi
Couple of photos from the Daly and Roper Rivers a couple of weeks ago.

A big croc up beside the boat on the Daly.

A good sized redclaw vs a cherabin ( minus the body which we ate) on top of a 44 gallon (205 litre) fuel drum at Roper River camp. If using this cherabin as live bait u wouldn't need a hook. Just tie a rope around the cherabin and it would grab any barra that happened to pass by.

A good sized barra taken off a rockbar in the Hodgson River ( tributary of Roper).

Go up every year for barra nationals on Daly and then go across to Roper. Got back last week.

    regards
    Rocky Ron

Wow that sure is on hell of a cherabin! Didn't know they grew that big...but do know that they are delicious.
Looks like that's some wild country you went into.

    Hi
Some parts of it were pretty remote eg the Phelp river near the mouth of the Roper and The Long Billabong near St Vidgeon's ruins.

Main worry at billabong was buffalo. We got bogged on edge of billabong and were confronted by a big bull buff who didn't like us at all (lowering head, flaring nostrils and pawing ground).

Had left banger back at camp.

After I explained to him that I was really a relative of his ( i married his sister I think), he left.

Cherabin good to eat alright. We ate prett well. Cherabin, barra, mud-crabs that we swapped barra for with the cambodian crabbers down the river, buffalo steaks and venison. Tough life.

    regards

Mmmmmmmm....something about bush tucker. It's always good.
Would love to see some more pictures of your trip when you get a moment.
Furthest North I've been is Lakefield National Park QLD. The Cherabin there were a little smaller.

    Hi Rockyron,

Great story and pics. I miss the territory after living in Darwin for 13yrs. Thats is certainly a big cherabin, love eating them and great live bait. Used too use them on the daly and worked a treat.

Never fished the roper but always wanted too. Good to see you had a ball.

    Cheers

    Hi
Here's a couple more photos. We've got about 250 photos and a stack of video footage.

Some barra, buffalo, a big (110cm 22kg) catfish and one of the fishing party (10 males and 1 female. Boy, can she fish).

    regards
