    Default Bundy croc

    Hi all

Weekend was pretty ordinary fishing wise.
Weather was great, warm and sunny but the Burnett river mouth was not holding much in the way of bait. There were no mackerel or tuna schools around the shipping channel and not even any birds on the move. A sure sign the fishing will be quiet.
Anyway, ended up the river trying out these new Trollcraft Crocs. First run along the top of the north wall produced this 85 cm flattie. I estimated her to weigh around 5 kilos (Burnett flatties always weigh heavy).
She put up quite a tussle on my little baitcaster outfit and had me fooled into thinking I had foul hooked a ray for a little while.
Anyway, it was the only fish of my trip, apart from a couple of pike.
Hopefully next weekend will see a bit more action.

    Cheers
    Dave

Yes it was. Flatties are quite sporting in the larger sizes.
The little flellas come straight in but the bigger ones up around this size give a real honest account of themselves.
For some reason, the flatties in the Burnett are always such solid fish and that seems to give them even more zip.

Anyway, you still planning to head down this way?
As I put in the text, the fishing is pretty ordinary unless you can get out wide, where there are some great trevs on the wrecks and some decent tuna schools.
Unfortunately, I've only got a 4.3 metre tinny, so I don't get outside unless things are very calm I'm afraid. Will have to work a bit harder on the wife and see if I can talk her into something a bit bigger one day I guess.
Still, if you have a half day, we could probably find something to chase around the river mouth at Burnett Heads, as long as you don't mind an early start?

Have you tried those new Trollcraft Crocs?
I've been using them for a little while now and found them to be a great value lure.
The colour that I got this fish on is a real killer on flatties for some reason. I had one in a smaller minnow and the fish chewed it up till there was almost no paint left on it.

    Well done.
A Flattie that size and you call it ordinary. Mate if I got one that size over here in Perth I'd be over the moon. It would be a pretty rare event over here.

Thanks to the 70cm upper size limit, big lizards are far from rare over here these days.
You can reasonably expect to tangle with a few each season.
I'm just hanging out til I can get one over the metre mark. Now that would be a big flattie!

    Cheers
    Dave
