Hey y'all....
Myself and a few mates took advantage of a public holiday last Friday and headed to Tassie's wild West Coast, in the hope of tangling with some Sea Run Trout.
We began the 3.5 hour journey and while is was windy when we left, we reached our destination to be greeted with a slight breeze and the sun glowing. The aim was to polariod schools of whitebait that are beginning their upstream migration to spawn and die. Sea-Run Trout and resident fish are tuned into this and take advantage by smashing the bait schools up, sometimes even near beaching themselves in the process! The Whitebait migration usually occurs anywhere between late August - December, with weather patterns, rainfall and tidal influences all delaying or affecting the run.
Unfortunately for us, there was no visible sign of feeding Trout or Whitebait when we arrived at The Henty River, so we began the task of blind fishing the sandy drop-off's towards the mouth of the river. We picked up a few small residents on fly.
