After just getting back from a very wet and flooded trip to Hull Heads in North Qld, I was champing at the bit to hit my local waters and get some fish again.
It had been 3 weeks since I'd fished at home and was unsure of what had been happening, so I took along one of the local river rats to tune me in again.
We went to our local haunts where we landed 2 lizards, a nice bream, an undersize jewie and a ripper mangrove jack, all on lures.
The jack was a PB for Chris, it went 54cm. Caught on 4lb braid with 12lb leader, it was an excellent catch. The jack took a Daiwa shallow running minnow which was cast into a patch of jumping jelly prawns. It ran hard and fast, at first we thought it was a good GT but there were no head shakes, then we thought it was a Queenie but it didn't jump. We had no idea what it was until we saw a flash of red...............you beauty, a jack.
A great catch, a lure caught estuary jack of 54cm is a mighty fine fish.
Especially on 4lb braid. Oh, and the fish was released, making it even sweeter.
Cheers, Jeff.
