Default Noosa River Quick Session 15/05/09

Had a quick throw around in the river this afternoon.
Hits nearly every cast with very very small GT's being the culprits.
Landed numerous little GT's before landing a very welcome little diamond trevally.
My mate Nick (abbott_86) also managed a very nice 50cm Golden trevally.
Not bad for an hour session.

    Cheers,
    Pete

    Gday Pete,

Great session mate and nothing like a productive shore bash - I LOVE iT! Uncomplicated / hassle free and can be still very productive.

Nice fish those Diamond Trevally mate and I managed to get this bugger when in Noosa als0 - around from Dog Beach.....(from memory)....

    Very nice Ben,

    They are beautifull fish,the diamonds.

Although quite a few show up every year here I still regard them as 'not a real common capture' ..... Normally its big eye trevally and GT's that make up the bulk of captures.

    Gday Pete / Chewy,

When fishing around this area this was the last thing i expected to catch....wasnt even on my 'what if' or 'possible' captures. It was only a small one but first time I have ever seen this species of fish in real.

I wonder why it has such long 'tenticles' features coming from its dorsal fin....I wonder what benefit it plays for this fish? Anyone know...

The thing is - just before I caught this fish, I lost a big flathead that would of gone around 55cm around 2 metres from me after a big head shake - spewin'!!!!

    Cheers - Benno

They most probably use the long 'tenticles' to hunt.
They would make themselves look bigger with all these flared out and trailing them.....(probably like a sailfish uses its sail).
Just a guess but it makes sense.
When the diamonds get big they lose the tenticles.

    Hi Pete,

Good point and I was thinking (scary) I wonder if it plays a part in attracting small baitfish?

So many theories...but I am agreeing with yours....seems logical.

Nice goin' Pete. Those Diamonds have a pretty good weight to fight ratio. They get on their side and can be hard to get moving. More so then Big Eye's and the more common ones anyway.
