    Default Flattie time.

I was a little bit apprehensive about following a flathead post such as Mick Baker's ripper thread but thought bugger it.

I went out this morning to chase some tailor as they've been pretty active the last week. A dozen other boats thought they'd do the same. It was a little crowded in such a small area and there was no tailor or trevally action so I decided to chase some flathead.
I drifted along a nice drop off with the runout tide, flicking a shallow diving X-Rap slashbait alternating with a Cultiva deep diver. It wasn't long before I had my first fish on board, a pesky bream of 28cm.
Not long after, the first of 4 legal flatties hit the net.
    Not big fish by all means, I landed a 44, a 51, a 55 and a 61cm job.
They were pretty skinny fish, the 44 had some jewellery consisting of a hook, trace and swivel stuck in his gob which I relieved him of.
Good to see the flatmen about, I kept the 55 and the 61 for a feed and released the other two. Hopefully there'll be plenty on offer in the near future, 'cos that's what I'll be targetting.
Also saw a much bigger fish caught and released by a fella near by which was good to see.
Picked up a nice Bigeye and 2 small GT's which were also released.
Ended up being a good morning.

    Cheers Jeff.

Good stuff fejjy. Lots of lizards round down here too mate. Lost another jack on friday and got a bloody bass out of a log went 46cm. Bit of a rare capture for the area. Me and red fella might be up next sat night, so we'll try and catch up for a beer.

Nice work Jeff and Pinkey.I also like the atomic prong for the flatties, particularly when the prawns are running in the local lake( match the hatch as they say).

    Awesome stuff Jeff,

I love flattie fishing and will be one of my main target species when i move down south at the end of the year. Flatties arn't fussy, take a lure readily ,give a good account of themsilves on light string and taste great too!!!

Did you try some plastics or stay on the hardbodies?

Also for the folks who havnt caught one, jeff did you fish close to some deep water and fish the run out when the fish move from the shallows oe fish the incoming and fish freshly flooded banks?

    Cheers

    Aaron
