    Default PB giant herring!!!

Went for a little after noon session with good mates Alec and Jacob to spot X, the weather was shocking, windy, cold and rainy, had few hits and runs but was pretty quiet!! But managed to land my PB GH measureing 91cm!!! Did a bit more exploring too, found some new areas to fish next time. Great way to end a sunday.

    Cheers Dane

Yeah nice fish. I've never seen one but I assume that, with a thumb in its mouth, that they don't have teeth like wolf herring.

Tis a nice herring to be sure.. The question I put forth is, did it live? The poor buggers are so sensitive to being removed from the water (1 minute out tends to make for 5+ minutes of manual swimming) that I've found it good practice to do the entire photo, dehook and release process within the water.

This isn't meant in a harsh manner, just some friendly information sharing from one fisherman to another.

ps: I completely understand the desire to get a glory shot with your PB. I would make an exception in such a circumstance.

Chamelion- no worries mate, thanks. Had it out of water for about 1 minute and swam it for about 10seconds and it took off fine!!!

Awesome stuff, very keen for my first GH.

I know the Wolf herrings are good fighting, I can imagine how hard these go!

Especially at that size, nice catch!

    What gear are you running?

In my experience they tend to have a very powerful first run but often can't fight for very long. They're actually not too hard on light gear, you just let them tire out on their first few runs and the fight is more or less won... On heavier gear with a tighter drag they're actually quite a bit more fun. :P ... Mind you, GH may act differently in different areas... It's been about a year since I last caught one too.
