    Default The Hairtail Plague

As many sunny coasters would know the hairtail are here in plague proportions.
Me and a mate went out for around 2 hours tonight and ended up with about 15 hairtails.

My mate phil took a couple home for stir fry :\ no thanks.

    Nice going!!!

I have caught them off townville casting bombers at night at the mouth of the marina.
Winter is the time for them here in sydney amd the hawkesbury.
Are they common for sunny coast????

I caught some at the end of winter last year. This year you can't get away from them. Last weekend during the day I had a couple snaring down my bream hardbodies.

I've heard there very good eating but I'm not keen. Also heard someone was keeping them for Spanish baits.

Someone said the secret to eating them is to scrub the silver stuff off.
I tried one, nice sweet flesh, but it's better to take them over 80cm...
a few bones but they come ok.

haven't caught them in years down here, they look ugly as but they are beautiful eating. the guys down here used to flog them when they were on, and they got very hard to come by so we stopped chasing them. might try and get out to my old haunts this year and see if they're back in any numbers
