Default Ticking off the boxes in Karratha

Well I have been throwing a lot of lures around up here in the last 5 weeks and I have crossed a lot of species off the list.
From my reports you may think the fishing is as easy as throwing a couple of casts and your on. It aint quite that easy, although it is easier than the east coast thats for sure with a higher quality of the fish. You still have to pick the spot, tide and target the fish with the right gear.
There are limited shore based fishing spots here and most spots get quite a bit of pressure but surprisingly still produce the odd gem, and regularly produce average size fish.
The species I have ticked off so far here are:
    Barra
Jack around the 40 mark on hollow bellies.
Estuary cod around 44 on hb's
    giant hearing on the catrap
spotties and schoolies also on the catrap and gold slug

numerous amounts of reefies when we hired the boat on bait and lure
    Blue bone on bait
and the other night a couple of queenies on gold slug.
Most of these I had never caught before, so I enjoying the variety this place has to offer.
Our project has pushed out another 3 months and we look like picking up some more work here, so a few of us are considering buying a 4m tinny and bringing it up from Perth later in the year. Boats around here are too dear for what they are.

What about those big brown lizards Steve. They much of a problem. I wondered that when you talked about dragging that barra through the mud.

I found the same thing with boats and 4WDs while living up in the Territory as well. They cost an arm and a leg and their overall condition was poorer on average. Obviously, there are good reasons for this but I ended up buying both my Cruiser and boat down in Brissy. Much better buying price and condition. You also get a fair chance to turn a profit if you end up selling it up there when you leave.

Good to see that you are getting amongst the fish. Any decent sized Goldies (fingermark) over that way at all ? They would go down alright for tea back at camp.

    Cheers,
    Roo.

Havent seen any Roo but pretty sure they would be there if you found the right spot.

Pete there are a few around. Not many sighted at all and mainly in the 3-4 foot mark. The water here is too cold for them they reckon. Boss wants to put a hobie in where I got the barra but I aint so sure hey.
