Well I have been throwing a lot of lures around up here in the last 5 weeks and I have crossed a lot of species off the list.
From my reports you may think the fishing is as easy as throwing a couple of casts and your on. It aint quite that easy, although it is easier than the east coast thats for sure with a higher quality of the fish. You still have to pick the spot, tide and target the fish with the right gear.
There are limited shore based fishing spots here and most spots get quite a bit of pressure but surprisingly still produce the odd gem, and regularly produce average size fish.
The species I have ticked off so far here are:
Barra
Jack around the 40 mark on hollow bellies.
Estuary cod around 44 on hb's
giant hearing on the catrap
spotties and schoolies also on the catrap and gold slug
numerous amounts of reefies when we hired the boat on bait and lure
Blue bone on bait
and the other night a couple of queenies on gold slug.
Most of these I had never caught before, so I enjoying the variety this place has to offer.
Our project has pushed out another 3 months and we look like picking up some more work here, so a few of us are considering buying a 4m tinny and bringing it up from Perth later in the year. Boats around here are too dear for what they are.
