    Default Happy days at Peel...

Kyle and I couldn't make the Jack Off but we had Sunday morning free so we headed to Peel pre-dawn. The sounder lit up with bait schools at our northern marks and we were done over by good fish twice before Kyle put a 44cm snap on the deck. The sun came up and the bite stopped like a switched had been flicked!

We headed to our breaming spot for the early high tide but were disappointed when we saw that the weedbeds of three weeks ago had all died off! We threw our lures out anyway and immediately Kyle came up tight on a good fish. After a brief tussle a pretty spangled emperor of around 32cm graced the net. I followed with a small grassy emperor before we were plagued by lots of undersized snaps - though they are great fun on bream gear! Not a bream to be seen...

As we drifted to the edge of the reef my mirashad was monstered by a bigger fish. After a couple of screaming runs a nice 37cm snap was landed...

After doing some more prospecting for new ground we headed home around 10.00am. In the middle of the bay a huge flock of birds (100+) was feeding aggressively so we stopped to throw a few slugs even though no fish were busting up the surface. Suddenly we are surrounded by a huge school of tailor busting up all around us. Kyle hooks up immediately and he manages to snaffle three fish in all while I only land one which took my slug right at the boat.

Cruised home after that - all done and cleaned up by midday. Final tally was around 12 snaps, a spangled emperor, a grassy, 4 tailor but some assorted vermin (pike & grinners). We also saw two types of dolphin, a mother and baby dugong and a heap of turtles.

    Great morning on the bay!

    Cheers

    Pete & Kyle
