Default The cons of fishing forums

Went to a bbq last night and was chatting to a bloke who was camping down a river in the straits a few weeks back. When asked how he went with the fishing, he said they got nothing as the commercial netters had been there for two weeks hammering the place. This concerned me a fair amount as the creek they were in had been turning up an improving number of barra, threadies and jacks over the last year. The next bit concerned me even more. This guy was chatting to the commercial guys and they commented that they had been reading in an on line forum that this creek was firing for barra and they had to hit it before the close of season. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

So here is the question: I know a lot of commercial fishos troll the fishing forum sites checking out when and where certain areas are firing for particular species, so are we, in our efforts to help our online mates or perhaps just share in the rejoice of a top catch actually assisting in the wiping out of our favourite fishing spot? I know a similar situation has recently occured in the Noosa with similar results and am sure it occurs in many other of the creek/rivers.

I am very mindful of posting information on captures in certain areas and don't report at all in others, fearing what has just happen.

    Thoughts?

Now, I'm not saying we should invoke capital punishment for Stupidity, but how about we just take all the warning labels off everything and let nature sort itself out?
