The wife, kids and I headed down to a sandy point on the bank of the Embley River this arvo for a quick sess. We actually went down to the same place yesterday arvo as well but we were a little undergunned with the kids rods and we didn't manage to land a great deal.
Today I upped the leader size and threw a different spool loaded with 30lb braid on my rod. Bait was simply frozen pillies and prawns rigged on a 4/0 hook.
First up my son caught a little shovel nose shark which then became known as the "river monster" (after a TV show that was on up here last night). Plenty of trevally were busting up bait not far from shore and we managed to land a few of these. My wife also picked up a just undersize coral trout which was a species I didn't expect to catch here. The last fish of the day spooled me good and proper, so I hope Santa has a bit of braid on board the sleigh tonight!
A Merry Christmas to all.
Cheers,
Roo.
