    Default Nice start to 2012..

Hey all, just got back from Hervey bay. Managed a quick arvo fish with Chris last night.
I managed to christen the new light combo (patriarch 1-3kg matched with daiwa freams running 4lb lovely combo!!) on what I will call for no other reason then the facts.. little fat red cod.. not more then 11cm long...... same size as the plastics we were running.... then managed some bigger cod around the 20cm mark. Also caught my first coral trout, which made a good account for itself on the light stuff, going around 30cm. They are such a pretty fish!
But after a number of bzzzzz..reef..twang. I decided it was best to switch back to the 14lb gear.
We pulled up an ungodly number of little fat red cod and their slightly larger cousins, the small fat brown spotty cod. Chris managed a nice trout falling 2cm short of legal.
But the 5 minute window that was mental as I have seen came on sun set. I pulled in a 20cm cod, Chris pulled in another nice trout just under legal. Then I manged a nice 45cm (my first legal trout woooo) With that just netted and in the boat, Chris gets a hit and a run. The first run was good, but it was when it woke up to the fact it was hooked it became interesting. It scooted around the other side of the boat, and the drag just went off.. screaming its poor little 2500 head off.
After a good 90m run we decided we would have to give chase... it sure wasn't slowing at all.. we chased him for half a minute with Chris gaining all but no line back.. then slack line....... reefed!!!! spewin!!
But was a great afternoons fishing, some nice first trout and a nice 35cm Moses... Oh and also something I can't identify... any help as to what it is(bottom pic), shall be much appreciated
    Cheers Ben!

Looks like a little Large Mouth Nannygai. Hard to tell, tail may look better when it is spread.

Saw the post on your FB and Chloe is right. You should use it as your new avatar :P

Very brave to be fishing with 4lb but can still be uber fun.
I go fishing not to find myself but to lose myself...
