Default How many times do you hit it?

Ok now lets not think dirty here

When fishing is tough how many times do you drift the same bank/ drop off etc. before moving onto the next one?

Mainly talking about bream flatty and alike but I guess it can come down to any species.

I never do it enough Neil, I'm too impatient, and fishing is a game of patients. It's my main downfall as a fisherman. Use your knowledge to nut out where the fish is going to be and back yourself I reckon.

    Happy new year mate.

If something looks good I will pelt it, drift past it a dozen times until I feel confident, that if there were a fish there I would have caught it by now lol

As Didley, I am impatient too so I tend to do a half dozen passes then move on. If Im confident the fish are there I will keep coming back trying different lures/retrieves

there is a stretch in maroochy i fish alot, will drift it all arvo back and forth, sometimes jew on the first run other times not till the last couple of runs , and sometimes in between, back n forth i go..some days good, some days bad, but usually pick off somthin...mainly flatties, but some good jew at times, so sometimes persistence pays off...

Mondy I will do a bank a couple of times and may come back to it a few hours later, but I tend to do a bank in the salt at least 5 times.
Doesnt do me much good tho

Deano makes a good point Neil. Some of the banks or points we fish have 'history'. The better the history the more likely we are to persist.

At Mondy if we're prospecting for barra we will only hit a bank for one drift or pass and then move on. If it is a bank or point that has yielded fish before we will give it a bit longer.

In our patches of the salt (Peel Island, Green Island, Goat Island, Bird Island, Wello Point, Ormiston, Hope Banks, Harries, Mud Island and Cleveland) we have particular areas in each location that now have a long solid history for us.

If it is a 'good' history and the tides, wind and bait shows are good - again we will persist. The same spot may only get a cursory hit if the other stuff ain't right.

It just depends...the longer you fish the same areas the greater your understanding becomes of whether or not the area will work in particular conditions. In the end though, sometimes the fish just aren't there regardless of everything else!

    Cheers

    Pete

I am a run n gun type and at best workover a bank three times, but usually only once as there are too many good fishy spots to hit and very limited time. If I run out of options, I might go back to known areas and work over more dilligently, but I have wasted too many hours trying to extract bugger all out of bugger all, just to move onto the next spot and smash them, then run out of time.
Now, I'm not saying we should invoke capital punishment for Stupidity, but how about we just take all the warning labels off everything and let nature sort itself out?

yep pete ,history = confidence in given areas, so we will persist ...
    confidence and persistence = fish...
