    Default Advice needed

    Hey guys and girls

I've got a bit of a problem I'd like to start targeting finger mark on lures but I don't know much about them so I have a few question that I'm hoping someone can answer

what type of structure finger mark like?

Do finger mark prefer deep water or shallow water?

Whats the best time of year for catching them?

and finally what types of lures work the best?

    Cheers Jamie

Were one of my favourite targets while I lived in mackay. I got lots of fish to 50ish cm in the creeks on prawn profiles. Deep holes and deep rock bars were productive. Offshore is where it's at but. Rubble and weed patches hold the big ones. Around headlands is another favourite haunt for them. I found they do feed better at night On little tides or little windows of slack water around tide changes.

If you ever get the chance fish the Lucinda sugar loader. Best I've stopped there is 92. After getting smoked for 2 hours on softies a live bait on a plaited 80 pound handline had to be deployed to seduce a few beasties.

All of my fingers have come from 2m or deeper in estuaries or creeks. All but two have come from lures whilst spinning for jacks, the other two were on live herring or mullet. Generally they are 35cm to almost 60cm from memory.
Find rocks in a system and you will be on the money. I don't think I pulled many of submerged trees, they were nearly always jacks and cod.
Sinking or suspending lures hard twitched produced the most I reckon.

Was before my soft plastic conversion but I reckon the hard bods would probably outfish the placcies for fingers. Blades and vibes would be a real tool for them too.

They seem to like Gulp 5" and 7" jerk baits up here. Squid is also a favourite of theirs.

    Cheers,
    Roo.

Was just last night I was talking to Graham about dropping Lucansus or Octo Jigs on any promising marks.
I'll have a couple in the tackle bag before the weekend's out, I'm sure!

If we ever get a live squid on the boat though, I reckon there'd be a mad grab for it!
Look forward to the report BA.
    Alex.
