    Default Mackay/airlie beach advice

    Hey guys . . Just After some advice in regards to Airlie beach fishing. . What sort of gear should I be running ? What species Are you most likely to encounter .. We plan on spending a few days in Mackay/proserpine chasing barra/sootys etc and then up to airlie for a few days.. Just trying to get a plan going as we leave in 2 weeks

    mate drop into Proserpine bait and tackle its on the main drag in town ,ask for Lindsay he will put you on the right track ,great bloke and great fisho .

    Boat or land based spaded

    Thanks boys. just land based gippys.. Diffinaetly keen to try where all those big boats are moored up with lights behind them

    Yeah mate all sorts of critters in those marinas. But with the rain up there of late. The Lethe brook would be worth a few casts. That's the flood plains the last 10k in to prossie. A lot of barra get caught there of the hiway. Where you cross the o'connell river on the hiway too hold some massive jacks. And the whole airlie/Shute harbour foreshores hold queenfish, trevs, the odd barra and if they're about big schools of blue salmon. The headlands hold fingermark of various sizes and the occasional trout. And around mackay the pioneer river between Marian and marani has good land based access for sootys. If you decide to take a boat let me know. Good luck.
