Default Quick State of Origin Curtain Raiser

    G'day,

Today the family and I headed out to the Pennefather River for a quick fish. This river system is located about 75 kms from Weipa and is a magic spot for fishing and camping along the river itself or along the miles of beach to the South of the river.

With Dad making up the entire NSW side and Mum and the 2 kids being the QLD side, I knew I was in for a tough contest. Sledging prior to launching was fierce. Players were cautioned.

It was NSW however that drew first blood when a nice little trev latched onto the Blue Rapala. This early setback on their home turf angered the QLD side and the game then turned a little nasty, with both sides resorting to boating several barracuda in quick succession.

With the size of some of these cudas becoming a bit of a safety hazard in a small boat, the Ref made an executive decision to move the match to a new venue. This decision worked in QLD's favour, with a nice cod smashing a Maroon lure as it was towed over some rocky country. This rattled NSW and they then returned back to their old tricks and started on the Cudas again. Meanwhile the youngest QLD player in the side came into the game late off the bench and was chipping in with small reefies.

Both sides had their chances to put the match beyond doubt, with bust offs and a couple of good brickings leaving the players from both sides shaking their heads in disbelief.

With the final siren looming, the game went into golden point overtime with the next fish taken on the final trolling run to decide the winner. Ironically, after a boating a fish on nearly every previous run, all lures went untouched on the final run. Looks like we will have to tune into Channel 9 tomorrow night for the official result afterall.....

    Cheers,
    Roo.

I'm just gobsmacked that those colours actually caught fish - well done to using them rather than adding them to a collection. That's what lures are for...
