Default old grouper finally caught from Urangan Pier

This grouper has been living under the pier for years. Ive seen flashes of him as anglers tempted him him all sorts of baits. He was caught on sunday, and brought up to the shallows for some pics, then they removed some old hooks and he swam free. A nice lesson in C&R for the young onlookers.

Some great pics here from the local newspaper.

Protected species aren't they, so no option but to release. I think the crowd would have stoned them to death if they had tried to take it lol

hmmmm 24kg plus stroker rod.....400lb trace...no wire? what were they targeting? if something is protected, while its commendable it was released...perhaps dont target it in the first place? has a better chance of survival if left alone all together!
