Graham, one question. The trees that are sparse at the top beside the river, are they Bottle Trees.

No Gordon, they are the palms. The sparse ones are the ones that have flowered, fruited and are now dying. The pic in the first lot of photos is the huge flower head of the palm just into bud. I'd estimate just the flower head to be 2-3m in height. I've had a bit to do with native plants and to see this was something special.

Looking more carefully I can see the similarity in the trunks with the ones in the foreground, then looking at the ones in the first lot of photos I now can see the flower head.
Certainly very special. As i've always said its not always about the fish but the adventure getting those fish................................ also really like the photo LHS of the Palm with the seed in the first lot to.
