Well I've been having shocker fishing sessions of late. I was up to 5 donuts until I finally found something with a good mate.
We started early to catch a tide and beat the heat, with water temps reaching 34* on previous trips. The day looked a little too perfect, one of those glassed out days where stealth comes into it's own.
We started with some blades lightly jiggled on the bottom and caught some decent flathead and undersize trumps. This was very good for confidence. As the tide slowed I took us to a snaggy area in about 2 meters where we have done well in the past. Kyle scored a nice blue on a locked drag.... If you want some good fun catch blues, on jack drag.
I landed a fiesty barra which took a deep diver.
After dealing with this fish we saw some baitfish fleeing the water to escape something. The line of baitfish in the air was pretty impressive, a good ten meters. Kyle is always keen on pelagics so we headed over and he used a transam to hook something very very fast and clearly big as we were running 20/60 and this this took a 40 meter run on its strike! I wound in and and drove the electric to catch up, while Kyle fought his opponent. We called him for a serious salmon for most of the fight, till we got colour of a big estuary Gt. Even with chasing this fish down it took ten minutes to net him. Not being set up for this saw me sticking my hand inside a 90cm gt trying to remove the lure.... When he decided to bite! I let out a little yelp and then realised he had dislodged the hooks when he swollen down on the pliers. Gave the Gt a swim and sent him on his way.
I had another shot at a salmon and landed a barra, so thought it best to leave them be. We headed home high on life already planning next weekend.
