Easiest number to remember... 1300 ANIMAL.. It'll connect you to your nearest wildcare representative.. and they'll organise some form of rescue. If Sea Hawks are anything like there smaller counterparts.. you probably made the best decision.. i've been clawed up by owls and pacific baza (crested hawk)... and they can do some serious damage... If you do have to do a rescue, use a big towel.. throw it over the bird and secure the legs so the talons cant grab you.. welding gloves are pretty weak defence aswell at times... eagles and hawks have powerful talons designed for gripping/crushing and not letting go.. so.. worry about those... then the beak.. lol... as for Pelicans... secure the beak and then cradle the bird with your free arm... they usually settle down.. lol..
If you do come across an injured animal, you might be called on to assist... some rescues do not have the means to access things like seabirds... so if you can allow them a ride on your boat or do the rescue for them with some advice, i'm sure they would seriously appreciate it!
