So the scene was set, Pete rolls up at 4.30 am and we roll our way to the ramp, only to wait a half hour with the bugs before there was enough water to launch. Heading out, we run into a mate, who'd spent the night out, for one 45cm grunter, and a million bug bites. Anyhoo, we planned to hopefully get lucky by running a few pots for a Muddie, and have a quick fish, in by 10. So the pots went in, and fish we did, Pete opening up with a near legal grunter, then getting towelled up by a blistering run from a thready. We laughed a lot(well i did) Anyhoo, i managed a little trev, and then a nearly legal grunter, when petes reel screamed again, and with his line scything away from the bank, we were in with a chance. A short battle ensued, and i netted a nice little thready which was destined to try win Melanie over if the crabbing failed. Iced down we fished again for a while.... Then this happened.
Without doubt my luckiest capture. Tide was topping so we ran the pots, happy we had a feed, and eventually we nabbed one nice buck and we headed for home and a coffee(beer). Just about to clean the fish and chill the fillets, pretty happy that i got so lucky, and im pretty sure with taking the crab home to Mel, Pete will be feeling the same.
