Sorry for the lateness of this one, but life has a knack of getting in the way of things. Anyways, I had got some new plastics to try, and we needed some fish in the freezer before the barra and jack season gets into full swing. We planned to fish Dids secret shark spot, get a few grunter and then go looking for a thready somewhere... But the shark spot was bereft of bait, and as it happens....Grunter, with no interest after a half hour or so.
We had a team meeting, and decided to check out some of the island creeks. As normal, pete had a few fish on the board with i sorted myself out, with me eventually taking advantage after he had to re rig after getting snagged. We managed a steady stream of fish, mostly trevally, queenfish and a couple of little Diamond Trevally.
We found a long shallowish run, and with the tide running hard now, we chose to fish the side that still had a little shade. i changed to a slightly heavier white demonz jighead and almost straight away got a just legal grunter. I think i got another 3, one being a nicer size, giving a great account of itself on 6lb in 5 feet of water, before Pete relented and followed my lead(for the record this almost never happens).
It was no fluke or coincidence, as a couple casts later Pete hooked a nice Grunter. I really dont know if it was the white colour, the red eye, or the different sink rate, as i generally don't overthink this stuff. Anyway, soon enough the sun was overhead, tide was topping so we decided to get out of there before we got stuck, heading home for a beer an to clean some fish.
