Default A few flatty & a major embarrassment

Having returned to fishing after too long off the water, we were keen to connect up with long time forum friend Funchy especially now that we live in the same area.

So 4:30 am saw us finally meet in person at the boat ramp..Trace and me, Funchy and his brother Jack. Plus our dog, Funchy’s 2 dogs and a beautiful sunrise...what could possibly go wrong?

We headed off to some likely looking drop-offs for a flick, lots of bait fish jumping but not much action. Jack landed a just-legal flatty which went back into the drink.

Because it was a bit quiet, Funchy headed north and we intended to head south, with a plan to meet back up in the middle in an hour or two. ...After a while Funchy returned wondering why we hadn’t moved...Why?...Because the damn motor won’t start. Was it old fuel?... NOPE, the fuel had been fully flushed and replaced after our long absence from boating. Was it primed? Yep. Is the air vent open? Yep. Fuel line kinked? Nope...Maybe its dirty fuel or a blocked line? Hmmm maybe. We decide to keep fishing suing the electric motor on a looooong path back towards the boat ramp.

Fishing: we ended up with a 47cm flatty which we were happy enough with (a meal is all we ever want from a fishing trip). Funchy and Jacko had headed to greener pastures and fared better than us, both in size and number of flatties, well done lads.

    EMBARRASSMENT:
At this point I expect that a number of you are shouting at your computers / tablets / phones WHAT ABOUT THE KILL SWITCH!!! CHECK THE KILL SWITCH YA DOPE!!!!

Only after getting home, pulling out the fuel line and filter, cleaning and re-fitting them did I notice that the kill switch and lanyard were missing in action....WTF???

And there it was, caught in the seat and hanging disconnected from everything. The damn thing had got caught in the seat and dislodged when I’d pivoted the seat to start fishing...

As is obvious, we are BADLY out of practice on the boat and with our fishing at the moment BUT it was still a fantastic day on the water (pics below). It was great to meet Funchy and Jacko, and to be honest it was a relief that the motor issue was simply fixed...BUT we won’t be making that newbie error again

Happens to the best of us at some stage in our boating life, bit like the bungs. At least you got a feed and an education and it didn't cost you anything. Win Win.

Could have been Funchy that pulled your cutout, it's the sort of thing he'd do !

Haha. Did that in a mates boat the other day. New Yammies sound the warning siren as soon as you switch the ignition on. Took me a few minutes to wake up to what it was telling me though.

Would have liked to have been there today but other committments intruded, might catch up on the water soon, might get out tomorrow but not early.
A similar but different event happened to me many years ago, the old Suzuki rubber pin had shrunk back slightly, apparently the first thing mechanics checked in those days, now the kill switch has a different design apparently so it is more visible.

It’d be good to meet up, though not tomorrow for us, maybe sometime over the next couple of weekends.
